Montopolis is an indie chamber music group from Austin. Their music incorporates country and folk into modern classical arrangements with inventive instrumentation. Their most recent works are themed around ecologically important sites in Texas, including Enchanted Rock, Big Bend and the Texas Gulf Coast, and incorporate video and interactive live storytelling to draw in the audience.
This performance of “The Living Coast” is being sponsored by HRI to celebrate the institute’s 20th anniversary. The Harte Research Institute was founded with a generous donation from local newspaper magnate and conservationist Ed Harte in 2000 with a mission of protecting the ecological and economic health of the Gulf of Mexico, an often-overlooked sea.
The institute has since grown from an idea to a $27 million international research institute supporting nine diverse research programs and more than 150 students, staff and researchers. HRI continues to expand its research capabilities in its mission to seek science-driven solutionsTM for Gulf of Mexico problems in order to advance its long-term sustainable use and conservation.
