Steve Truchon was a beloved husband, father, friend, and colleague. Like so many others he was taken from us too soon, losing his battle with COVID-19 just weeks before his 60th birthday.
As a marine scientist and experienced diver he was passionate about protecting the environment, and was well-respected not only for his extensive technical knowledge, but his ability to share it with warm generosity and a playful spirit. Steve worked throughout the world and accomplished much in his professional career. Read more about Steve's life and career at this memorial board created by friends and colleagues in the weeks following his passing.
In recent years at Shell, he applied his expertise to projects ranging from restoring mangroves in Nigeria, collaborating on work in Brunei in Borneo, to decommissioning oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and worldwide. Much of his “Rigs-to-Reef” decommissioning work was conducted in collaboration with fellow scientists and researchers at the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies.
The purpose of this fundraising effort is to establish a fellowship at HRI in Steve’s honor that will provide support to graduate students engaged in Gulf of Mexico research projects. We welcome your generous support of this effort — there is no doubt that Steve would be thrilled to see his legacy of scientific excellence honored in this way.
